Tripod mounted Pan Tilt Gimbal used for Antenna Tracker

Hey Everyone,

We have been working on a tripod mounted Pan/Tilt gimbal and decided a good use would be to test out using it as a GPS based Antenna tracker for our FPV gear we use on our Quadcopter and Multirotors. The antenna is controlled via our Ground Station which reads the GPS positions of the Quadcopter and tells the antenna where to face so that you are always facing the Quadcopter for best the best signal.

Features

  • Tripod mounted
  • 360 degrees of rotation on Pan
  • 130 degrees of rotation on tilt. With 40 degree downward tilt possible.
  • interchangeable mounting plates depending on its use
  • On-board Programmable Controller
  • Compaitable with APM Mission Planner

This setup allows us to fly without having to worry if we are going to lose connection with our video feed because we flew to far outside the antenna angle. We simply plug it in, set its position in the Mission planner, and can fly worry free while the antenna track us in the sky.

To do this we used a modified version of the ArduTracker code version 1.1 with the APM Mission Planner. We hope to be finishing up the testing on the Pan/Tilt gimbal within the next week or so, and be ready to release it, as well as the antenna mount plates. We still have a few more changes to make though, and will hopefully have some updated photos here for you in a few days.

Here are a few quick pictures of the Pan/Tilt Gimbal with antenna assembly.
